Lot 184: The Harriet Hodge Collection (Jack Dempsey)

UPDATE: Additional items included in this collection are A horse race program dedicated to Mrs. Hodge and signed by Casey Stengel and Mrs. Stengel. The program was signed shortly the Yankees became world champions in 1956. A ticket stub from Don Larson's perfect world series game. Two photographs of triple crown winner Citation signed by Bobby Jones the horse's trainer. Both of these photos are in off-grade condition they have toning and missing some missing stock to the left portion of the photo. Both photos have some light creases and wear to the corners, however because most of the damage is on the edges once cropped or framed most of the wear will not be evident.
Material from this groundbreaking vaudevillian, horse race owner and friend of Jack Dempsey. Over 200 pieces, the collection includes a wonderful group of Jack Dempsey material (about a dozen JD signed pieces, unsigned postcards, some unusual ephemera and more). The horse racing includes 80+ mounted photos (1940s-50s), lots of other great images, programs, tickets and much more. There are two huge scrapbooks filled with photos from her vaudeville career, more horse racing material (great Kentucky Derby stuff), boxing stubs (Louis-Mann 1938), and much more. There are even signed photos of the Andrews Sisters, Bebe Daniels/Ben Lyons, Rudy Vallee, and the Duncan Sisters. There is a lot more too numerous to list including superb material from VP Hubert Humphrey, a Don Larsen Perfect Game ticket stub and spectacular 1939 signed photo of Robert Wadlow, the tallest man who ever lived (at 8 feet 9.5 inches). He died soon after the photo was taken. Overall excellent condition.
