Lot 958: 1955 New York Yankees Team Signed Baseball

All it took to finally slay the mighty Bombers in ‘55 was a near-flawless Game 7 pitching effort by Johnny Podres and a stick-out-your-glove-and-close-your-eyes catch by Sandy Amoros. Which just proves how dominant the Yankee dynasty of the decade was. And even though they lost the Series to the Bums that year, that now seems like an historical anomaly. Thus, this spectacular 1955 team-signed Yankee ball is a reminder that even the gods can have a bad day. Gods, indeed. What a cast those damn Yankees had, and all of ‘em are right here on this OAL (Harridge) -- Mantle (on a side panel above Hank Bauer), Berra on the sweet spot, Slaughter, Ford (as “Ed Ford”), Rizzuto, Skowron, Lopat, Howard (rookie!), Morgan, Kucks, etc. Sigs average 8 in light and dark blue ink. Ball is EX-MT, toned to a delightful light golden brown with no more than a few specks here and there on the surface.
