Marvelously endearing autograph album containing awesome signatures of a trio of hockey’s biggest stars of the ‘20s and ‘30s -- including the star-cursed Howie Morenz, who lived as fast as he skated for the Canadiens and Blackhawks. He died young, at age 34 in 1937, as the result of an injury, and was one of the first elected NHL HOFers. The book is a curious curio, for the most part a typical graduation album filled with inscriptions dated 1928 & 1930 from classmates of a young Ontario lady named “Olive,” who must have been quite the hockey nut to garner the famous ice stars’ markers on a couple of pages mingling with but kept free of any classmate signatures. The near-mythical Morenz is the sharpest, in clear, crisp black ink, grading a near-pristine 9/10 at the least -- one of the very best of his that can be found. Another highly desirable signature is Ace Bailey, the Maple Leaf star who nearly suffered the same fate as Morenz, almost killed by Eddie Shore’s crushing body check in 1933, prompting the first NHL all-star game to be held to benefit him the next year. Bailey signed in pencil on the back of the page with Morenz’s autograph, an 8/10. And there is longtime Maple Leaf player & coach Happy Day, who signed his name (8/10) under “The Maple Leafs 1928 Champions” also in his hand. Album itself is VG-EX with damage on the brown patterned front and back covers but none on the inside pages that transport one back to a long gone era.
