Lot 671: Darryl Strawberry Game Used Collection (3)

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $200.00
Winning Bid: $270.40
Price Realized: $323.13
Auction Date:11/30/2005 9:00 PM EST

More than just game-used equipment, these items mark the time when a dried-out Strawberry in the winter of 1997-98 -- after 5 years of limited action due to drug problems -- had to swallow his pride and his past as an All-Star slugger and play in the Puerto Rican Winter League to prove he could still hack it in the bigs. Playing with the Santurce Crabbers, he did just that, winning another chance with the Yankees in ‘98 and ‘99 and being a vital contributor to WS crowns both years. Includes two size-46 home and away jerseys with #”44” on front and back, both with moderate use, heavily used pair of size-12 Reebok cleats, and a very well-used personal model Mizuno bat (34.5”) signed on the barrel by Strawberry in black marker, grading 6/10. Bat has numerous ball, cleat and pine tar marks, proving he stopped damaging himself and did serious damage to baseballs again.
