Lot 130: Umpires Room Locker and Chair

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $300.00
Winning Bid: $1,018.33
Price Realized: $1,216.91
Auction Date:11/27/2005 9:00 PM EST

The loneliest lockers in Busch Stadium were in the loneliest room in Busch Stadium – the umpires’ locker room, where the four (or six in postseason games) men in blue huddled with each other in us-against-the-world isolation and camaraderie. Offered is one of those lockers along with the padded chair that accompanied it. The locker includes the white-painted metallic top and side frames, as there was no backing to the locker, which backed up flush to a cinderblock wall. Locker measures 44” wide, 30: deep, 76” high. Black metal chair is 33” tall and has white padding with a red “Bud” and the MLB logo printed on the seat back and the National League logo on the seat cushion, both in red and blue. Included as well is an amusingly “retouched” laminated “Major League Baseball Umpires Uniform Policy” sign with items like mask and chest protector arrayed around an ump – who has a cigar stuck in his mouth, a bottle of Bud affixed on his left hand and a fish on his right hand. Chart is 24” wide and 33” long. Locker has minimal markings of wear and the chart is EX.
(Estimate $500 - $1,000)
