Lot 69: Dizzy Dean Framed Photo from Cardinals’ Club

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $200.00
Winning Bid: $6,908.05
Price Realized: $8,255.12
Auction Date:11/27/2005 9:00 PM EST

The irrepressible Jerome Hanna Dean may have been a little “Dizzy” but he was anything but befuddled on the mound. Though his Hall of Fame pitching career lasted just six full seasons before injury cut it short, no hurler has even been more dominant and no Cardinal has ever been more beloved than the Arkansas country boy who made good in the big city. Between warbling renditions of “The Wabash Cannonball”, Ol’ Diz was the big gun of The Gas House Gang, leading the league in wins in 1934 and 1935 and hurling a shutout in Game Seven of the raucous ’34 World Series against the Tigers. This classic sepia toned photo of Diz throwing a pitch, which hung near the lobby entrance of the Cardinals Club, has a plaque reading: “Dizzy Dean Circa 1934, 30 Game Winner and NL MVP.” It is matted and gold framed, 34” wide and 39” long, and EX-MT.
(Estimate $300 - $500)
