Lot 110: Cardinals Training Room Table
ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
A major league training room serves two main purposes. First, it’s where players go to have the kinks worked out of their weary, battered bodies by the team’s trainers. Second, and maybe more importantly, it’s where players go to hide out from the hordes of prying, snooping media milling around the locker room waiting in vain for them to emerge. This sturdy table from the Cardinals’ Busch Stadium training room has a place in baseball history all its own, as it was probably used by Mark McGwire to rest his bones (and vocal chords while waiting out the media) during his pressure-packed pursuit of the home run record in 1998. The table has a plush black vinyl cushion atop a light brown wooden platform. The wood frame has a shelf midway between and top of the table and four legs, and has a “Bailey” manufacturer’s insignia on the front end. Table measures 78” long and 30” wide and is in EX condition, with the cushion showing traces of sweat (perhaps some Big Mac sweat?) and dirt and a few cracks in the vinyl.
