Lot 21: Beatles Signed "Beatles Book Monthly"

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $3,000.00
Winning Bid: $5,748.31
Price Realized: $6,869.23

The fact that all four Beatles signed this item is only part of the story, and a great story. Better still is that what they signed is the cover of “Beatles Book Monthly”, copies of which are always must-have items in any serious Beatlemaniac’s collection. The complete set of these books consists of 77 issues published from 1963 to 1970, spanning the band’s entire career. It was published with the full cooperation of the Beatles themselves, who often made exclusive contributions to the magazines along with Beatle insiders like Neil Aspinall, Mal Evans and Derek Taylor. What’s more, these books featured rare and exclusive photos never published anywhere else. Unlike other cheap, cheesy fan mags, BBM was packed with well-written stories, personal data and, each month, lyrics to a Beatles song. While most of the series is rather easily obtainable, the early issues are the challenge. Not only are we offering the super-rare BBM No. 3, but with these top-grade signatures on it. Actually, there’s a little added bonus because Ringo also signed the centerfold photo of himself. The blue and white cover of Beatles Book Monthly No. 3 shows the Moptops from an innocent era cavorting in a swimming pool, with a nearly submerged George looking not at all pleased. Signatures are intertwined with the image in red pen, and are eminently readable and nearly electric in their sheen, rating NRMT status. The book itself has been wonderfully protected, with only a modicum of discoloration and page damage such as a few dings on the cover.
