Lot 1380: 1960 World Series Mickey Vernon Pittsburgh Pirates Game Worn Home Jersey

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $2,000.00
Winning Bid: $3,832.20
Price Realized: $4,579.48

Mikey Vernon was both a player and a coach for the Pirates in 1960. He was coaching in Game 7 of the 1960 World Series when Bill Mazerowski hit the game winning homer. This is most likely the jersey that he was wearing on that day. Vernon is pictured in the famous newspaper photo of Maz crossing home plate after rounding the bases. The Rawlings “Hall of Fame Flannel” tag and an additional tag with the jersey size “46” is on the left front tail. Below that is Veron’s number “42” and “60” embroidred in black thread. On the inside left front tail are two manufacturer's tags with wash instructions and “SET 1 1960” on them. Across the front of this vest style jersey is “PIRATES” and on the back is the player number “42,” both done in black on yellow felt. The jersey shows light game use with a thread from the top button loose. The jersey is 100% original with all proper tagging.
