Not generally known is that Rose was given the moniker "Charlie Hustle" by Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford during a Yankee-Red exhibition game in '63. Watching the rookie running to first on a walk and sliding head-first into bases, they intended the name to be a facetious comment on a guy who couldn't possibly keep up that intensity. Well, he did, turning bats like this Adirondack he used during the 1970s into instruments that rewrote the record books. From 1971-79, Rose had seven .300 plus seasons, won a batting title and a MVP award, set a NL record 44-game hitting streak, and led Cincinnati to 2 championships. Red ring personal model A69 bat is white ash and has the number "14" on the knob in black marker. Rose signed and inscribed the bat on the barrel in black marker -- a vintage and valuable Rose that has faded to a 3/10. Moderate use with a few slight ball and rack marks and loss of finish around the barrel head.
