Lot 652: Walter Johnson Handwritten Singned Letter
ITEM DESCRIPTION

How dominating a pitcher was Big Train? Let us count the ways: he led the AL in wins 6 times, in won the MVP award twice, strikeouts 12 times, achievements like 16 straight wins, 56 scoreless innings, 5 wins in 9 days. Consider this, too. Johnson went 417-279, plenty impressive, but of those losses, 65 of 'em were by shutouts and 26 by 1-0 scores! With any luck, the man could have won 500 games! Obviously, Johnson memorabilia is big-coupon stuff. And this awesome handwritten letter is surely one of the rarest. The undated letter addressed "To Stanley" appears to have been composed in 1930's and is a thank you for a letter Johnson himself received. The signature ("Walter Johnson") is accomplished in bold black ink and is as clean as you will find (writing and sig. are both 9/10). The letter has the usual fold lines from mailing, but is otherwise NRMT.
