The exaggerated tint of the jersey and the pale skin tone form an intriguing contrast in Fleer's AFL rookie card of Nick Buoniconti. Some of the '63 Fleers have the appearance of painted negatives -- an art form from another era. We always loved the Patriots' original logo -- a classic on any card. This GEM MT (PSA 10) Buoniconti is a standard bearer for this class. Fleer went full bore into the fledgling AFL while America was spending its Sundays watching the NFL and Ed Sullivan. Buoniconti, the undersized overachieving linebacker from Notre Dame, went on to greatness with the Miami Dolphins' no-name defense and then into Canton. We have just one bit of hindsight advice for Nick: Never pose without pads.
