Amazing collection of over 100 never-seen candid snapshots of Connie Mack and Philadelphia A's players and oldtimers taken at the team's West Palm Beach spring camp in March 1947, some of them signed. Includes set-ups of Mack standing at home plate with a bat, in his vest, tie, dress slacks and 2-toned shoes (at least he took off his jacket), in full suit playing catcher for an elderly Honus Wagner in his old Pirates uniform, and many more in this light vein, with Mack as you've never seen him. Photos of visiting players include HOFers Jackie Robinson (at his 1st spring training!), Pee Wee Reese, Hank Greenberg, Rudy York, Nellie Foxx, Mickey Cochrane, Al Simmons, Chief Bender, a couple of Mack with the Duke of Windsor and one of Mack with Comissioner Happy Chandler. Signatures on photos include Nellie Foxx, York, Ferris Fain, Eddie Joost, Elmer Valo, Bobby Shantz, etc. Most of the snapshot-sized photos (a couple larger) identify the players on the back.
