Lot 1583: Jack Johnson-Jim Jeffries Souvenir Scarf
ITEM DESCRIPTION

Souvenir linen scarf with a stained blue sketch of James Jeffries squaring off against Jack Johnson in their 1910 heavyweight title fight is a no-brain decision. Take a shot at this classic ring relic. It is 21 by 21 inches with a hemmed border. Terrific artwork and well-preserved (EX). Don't forget to note promoter Tex Rickard in the center. Nice pinstripes, Tex. For the record, Jeffries' corner threw in the towel in the 14th round, ending his comeback bid against the black champion and igniting race riots. This garment is a touchstone for turbulent times and makes an excellent entry into any boxing or Americana collection.
