What does a Crabapple Comet wear? This 1940s New York Giants jersey, that's what. Johnny Rucker, a Crabapple, Ga., native who was fleet of foot, donned this flannel Horace Partridge jersey during his 1940-46 stint in New York. Plenty of Polo Grounds dirt and other game-generated gunk populate this zip-up shirt, with blue felt "GIANTS" in red border sewn across the chest and Rucker's No. 1 on the back. Lots of sweat around the collar from Rucker and mates keeping the NYGs' ship afloat during wartime. Rucker ID script is embroidered under the Partridge tag. Accompanying pants belonged to teammate Buster Maynard, a hustling utility man who turned his pants into a veritable Polo Grounds museum. Lots of dirt and patchwork betwen the red and blue piping. Maynard's ID tag is at the back of the waistband, opposite the Wilson label.
