This cracked Louisville Slugger represents Bonds' first real achievement, his starting berth in the 1990 All-Star Game at Wrigley Field. Forgotten now is that his 1st 4 big league seasons for the Pirates were something of a bust, with Bonds never hitting more than .283 or 24 homers. '90 was his breakout -- .301, 33 homers, 114 RBIs. He hasn't looked back since. Plenty has changed in the ensuing years, including his uniform, weight and body composition, and of course his bat. Long gone is this Lousville Slugger Signature Model H238 for more exotic pieces of lumber, though it's clear it didn't go quietly into the good night by the heavy ball marks on the sweet spot -- one of which left the imprint of a 1990 All-Star Game ball's blue label! The crack on the handle came during the All-Star Game, a 2-0 AL victory in the midst of rainy conditions that put a damper on almost everyone's bat. Slight pine tar traces on the handle as well. A nice touch is "Bonds" written in blue marker on the knob. Early Bonds bats are getting hard to come by, and this important one was obtained right from Bonds by the visiting clubhouse manager at Wrigley who worked the All-Star Game. LOA from the attendant.
