Lot 66: John Cougar "American Fool" Multi-Platinum Record

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $300.00
Winning Bid: $324.48
Price Realized: $387.75
Auction Date:6/26/2005 9:00 PM EST

"American Fool" (1982) transformed the mythical John Cougar from pop-star prevaricator to hard-driving heartland rocker who could belt out pounding paeans to raw sex and croon a quaint "little ditty" about "two American kids doing the best they can." The ingredients perfectly caught the schizoid mood of the era, turning "Fool" into a monster that went triple-platinum and allowed John Mellencamp to use his real name on future albums. The precious platinum disk is mounted in a nifty display that has the album cover in three locations across the top, for each of the million-sales marks it crossed. Under it is the RIAA plaque presenting the disk to Polygram Precords. NRMT, 17 x 21" and silver framed.
