Jackie's personal copy of a 3-page typewritten speech he gave upon his acceptance of the NAACP's Spingarn Medal at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City on December 8, 1956. He begins by saying, "Today is the high point in my career" and that the NAACP "represents everything that a man should stand for: for human dignity, for brotherhood, for fair play." However, things weren't always sanguine between Jackie and the group, and he eventually resigned his NCAA membership, citing its failure to listen to younger black people.
