Lot 1244: 1973-75 Thurman Munson Game Used Bat (34")
ITEM DESCRIPTION

If you didn't know this awesome stick was swung by Thurman Munson, you probably could guess. Like the adage about dogs looking like their owners, this Munson signature model Louisville Slugger S44 is -- as he usually was -- covered with baseball residue, so much in fact that the bat was proably used by someone else after him. Heavy use includes embedded ball markings on the sweet meat, cleat marks up and down the shaft, tiny wood chippings, and a thick band of pine tar on the handle. There's a rubber cushion donut on the knob. Bat displays as the perfect tool of a blue-collar hero. One can only imagine the crucial base hits that left some of those ball marks.
