On August 16, 1949, the Co-Operative Club of Kansas City sponsored a tribute to local hero and Baseball Hall of Famer Charles "Kid" Nichols. Nichols ranks among the games all-time winningest pitchers, totaling 360 victories over a 15-year major league career, including a record seven 30 win seasons. In bold (9-10/10) blue fountain pen ink, Nichols writes, "I am enclosing a picture of my Plaque that us now hanging in the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown N.Y. This card that I am writing on is a drawing made by a newspaper man on the Kansas City Star and presented to me at a party given me by the Co-Opearative Club of which I am a member." He then signs the letter, "Yours Charles "Kid" Nichols" in the same Mint ink. In addition to the afore mentioned penmanship, there is a second Nichols autograph on the opposite side of the card (signed Charles "Kid" Nichols in blue fountain open and covered by a piece of vintage tape in an effort to preserve it).
