Lot 1334: Paul and Lloyd Waner Original Ink Washes from President's Hotel in Kansas City
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Distinctive, original ink wash portraits of the Waner brothers were part of the sports-related bric a brac from the President Hotel in Kansas City, which had one of the most famous sports pubs in the country. Frequented by Satchel Paige and other K.C. Monarchs players, the place was overseen by a bartender known as Jesse "The Kingfisher" Fisher. The portraits, by artist Ray Traynor, hung over the bar, bringing to mind the old adage, "If the walls could only talk." Framed 16 x 21" portraits of Lloyd and Paul in black ink have them with their bats in slightly different poses. Surfaces are uncovered and age and smoke has caused overall browning and soiling along the bottom. VG. Frames have mounting holes on sides.
