Lot 455: 1950s Brooklyn Dodger Bum In Original Box by Rempel
ITEM DESCRIPTION

Rempel's Campy the Tramp is really a Brooklyn Bum. It's a lighthearted poke at the downtrodden Dodgers and probably a more sinister comment on the team promoting Jackie Robinson and later Roy "Campy" Campanella to the major leagues. Seven-inch-high molded rubber figurine (EX+) features a swarthy, hirsute fella with large lips in a garish cheap suit, smoking a cheap cigar. His big toes poke out of his shoes. Was originally sold as a squeeze toy novelty. Incredibly difficult to find faux wood box has some creasing o/w EX, and and places the Tramp within the wooden fence of a baseball stadium. The back panel shows him watching the action through a knot hole while a dog next to him barks.
