This very cool, Pop Art-ish trophy was presented by the Chicago Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association to Nellie Fox as "Chicago Player of the Year" in 1957. That year the stubby little second sacker with the famous tobacco chaw in his cheek hit .317 and flawlessly as usual around the keystone corner. He would play a record-for-second-basemen 798 straight games and win the AL MVP award in '59 when the "Go Go Sox" went to the World Series. Trophy was made by the Dodge automotive company and designed asymmetrically with a large irregularly -angled vertical wood piece containing a gold plaque that is dated Jan. 19, 1958. The gorgeous gold statuette of a batter swinging is on an ornate triangular gold piece mounted on a wood hexagon with the Dodge "ram horns" hood ornament on the front. Trophy stands roughly 12" tall and the base 5 x 7 1/2" with the front contoured to the shape of the Dodge ornament. NRMT condition with a beautiful wood finish and just a trickle of nicks and a scratch on the base unit at the front. Came right from the Fox Family collection with Mrs. Fox's LOA.
