Lot 1388: The Ultimate Connie Mack Photograph

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $200.00
Winning Bid: $196.65
Price Realized: $235.00
Auction Date:6/26/2005 9:00 PM EST

NRMT photo of Connie Mack petting his prized elephant is one you'll never forget. The baseball legend wore a suit and tie in the office and on the field. This light moment, titled "Grand Old Man," spotlights his dignity and sense of humor throughout his Hall of Fame career. Borderless 10 by 13 mounted on cardboard is by William M. Irving of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Mack had a good tailor. He had even better players, winning five World Series in a managerial career that spanned 56 years and lasted until he was 87. The coal elephant trophy symbolizing his Philadelphia Athletics was a favorite because Mack adopted the elephant logo.
