Lot 440: Roy Campanella and Don Drysdale Signed Funeral Programs
ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
Funeral programs from one of the saddest weeks in Dodger history, when 2 of the team's most popular players died just 7 days apart, Roy Campanella on June 26, 1993, followed on July 3rd by Don Drysdale, whose career began just as Campy's was about to end tragically in Brooklyn. Both memorial services were held at Forest Lawn Cemetary in Glendale, attended by many of their teammates, family, and only one "fan," who managed to gain entry and subsequently obtained signatures from Sandy Koufax, Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snider and -- with terrible irony -- Drysdale on the Campy program, quite likely the last autograph he gave, and Reese again on the Drysdale program. The HOF foursome signed the former on the back cover around 4 bats surrounding the words "39 Dodgers, while Pee Wee signed the center spread of the latter. All signatures in black ink are MT as are the 5 1/2 x 8" programs. Literally, Dodger memorabilia.
