ITEM DESCRIPTION

Under Sandy Koufax's senior photo in this 1953 Lafayette High School yearbook, he wrote as his goal: "To be successful and make my family proud of me." Consider the mission accomplished, Sandy. Koufax was the star jock at his Brooklyn school, and he is featured throughout the 104 pages of this vinyl-bound, 8 1/2 by 11-inch volume. On page 21, he poses with both the baseball and basketball teams. On another page, he is celebrated as the best boy athlete with his head pasted onto a cartoon body. He also is mentioned as a member of SPAWS, the Society for the Prevention of the Accumulation of Wallflowers in Speakeasies. Cheeky lad. Incredible pitcher. The yearbook, engraved with the title "Legend" and "June 1953" in script, is in excellent condition. It belonged to a classmate. Koufax listed UCLA as his college but ended up at the University of Cincinnati for one year on a basketball scholarship before the baseball coach saw him unleash a fastball. The rest is baseball history.
