Lot 1318: Lefty Grove Granger Advertising Display
ITEM DESCRIPTION

Huntin' and smokin' were natural mates when this Granger tobacco ad appeared with pitching great Lefty Grove in the late 1930s. Die-cut 20 by 33 cardboard easel standup is seductive even now. A Hall of Famer reveling in his offseason glory, his teeth as white as a Hollywood starlet's, packed a powerful message. Vivid fall/winter colors captivate the eye. You can almost smell the pine and gunpowder. There's some water damage on the right side, a few holes, and a missing 1 by 2-inch chunk missing at the right bottom. But it still stands up -- literally and as a potent advertising tool. Presentations like this are as rare as players like Lefty Grove.
