Lot 1149: Gary Sheffield Game Used and Autographed First Major League Jersey and Hat
ITEM DESCRIPTION

Get in on the ground floor of greatness with Gary Sheffield's game-used and autographed first major league jersey and hat. Sheffield reported to the Milwaukee Brewers' spring training in 1988 and was promptly issued these two items, which he wore in games. A letter signed by Sheffield attests to their authenticity. Medalist Sand-Knit Size 44 with exclusive Brewers tagging sports Sheffield's signature in marker across the pinstripes, next to his No. 25: "Game Worn 1988 Gary Sheffield #25." Garment shows moderate use, but the New Era 7 1/8 cap with 54 written under the bill probably had to be yanked off his head. Sweat and grime imbedded everywhere indicate heavy use. Its landmark value is measured in Sheffield's handwriting on it: "Spring Training 1988 Gary Sheffield." Sheffield hit .238 with four home runs that season before blossoming into an eight-time All-Star slugger who now commands $13 million a year.
