Lot 1217: Barry Bonds Game Used Bat (33.5")

Game-used Bonds Lousville Slugger from the '90s recreates the time when it seemed plenty good enough that he was already the game's best player and Hall of Fame bound -- a refreshing era before all the controversy began. For many, the maplewood Rideau Crusher bat he started using after the turn of the millennium has a negative connotation, and the image of the unsullied '90s superstar is better served by his old Louisville Sluggers. This one, a H238 signature model, was identified as being used from 1993-97, meaning it may have been used as early as Bonds' initial season with the Giants ('93) after the trade from the Pirates. "25 V" is written on the knob and a panoply of serious use includes some painful looking bat marks on the sweet spot, cleat and rack marks, and pine tar residue from knob to barrel. A large crack on the handle would have made Bonds' hands feel like tuning forks on a blustery day in Candlestick Park and retired the stick from further use. Top end of the bat is hollowed out to Bonds' custom specifications. Included as well is a pair of black and orange batting gloves Bonds wore and signed on the right thumb in silver marker (7/10). "Bonds" on the wriststrap in white lettering. Gloves have the "Bonds 25" authentic hologram.
