Lot 1408: Tony Perez $1 Baseball Contract
ITEM DESCRIPTION

For some players, it's not always about the money. Case in point: This 1982-83 Puerto Rican Winter League contract extended by the Santurce Cangrejeros to veteran slugger Tony Perez stipulates a salary of exactly one dollar per month. At the time, the 40-year-old future HOFer, having made a fortune from nearly 20 big league seasons spent mainly with the Reds, no doubt regarded playing in the warm island breezes more of a lark than a job -- and a sweet reminder of the years he put in with the team (he won the league's batting crown in '67-'67, hitting .333). Signature is NRMT, contract itself is written in Spanish and has two binder holes and a bit of soiling on top o/w NRMT.
