Lot 1642: Felix Savon Fabre Fight Worn Robe - 3-Time Olympic Gold Medal Winner
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Good thing that Felix Savon Fabre's Olympics boxing robe has loose sleeves because the Cuban heavyweight got to raise his hands three times in triumph as the gold medalist. Savon matched the feat of his Cuban predecessor, Teofilo Stevenson, and also became a darling of Cuban leader Fidel Castro. White polyester faux silk is piped with red adidas tri-strip, and has red lapels with red belt and red wrist trim -- and sweat stains where you expect them. The back in red silkscreen reads: "Cuba Felix Savon Fabre." In the lower left pocket is a 3 x 5" color snapshot of Savon (EX) posing with an unidentified official at the 1993 Central American Championships. After winning his third Olympic gold at the 2000 Summer Olympics, Savon retired at the age of 33. We are not sure in which bouts this was worn but it was definitely worn by him in the ring.
