Lot 1161: 1961 Jerry Lumpe Game Worn Kansas City Athletics Jersey

Short-short sleeves, underarm holes and a light blue-gray wool helped infielder Jerry Lumpe stay cool in the summer of 1961 with the Kansas City Athletics. Handsome Kansas City script sweeps across the chest in embroidered silk, and Lumpe's No. 34 is stitched onto the left sleeve and back as well. Handwritten "Lumpe" woven into the collar is a nice touch, as is the 61' stitched into the bottom shirt front, above an oft-laundered Rawlings label. Lumpe wore the size 44 road jersey, which is vaguely yellowed in a few places, during a pretty good year. He hit .293, 25 points above his career average, and drove in 54 runs. He had a cool shirt, too.
