Lot 87: Ella Fitzgerald American Express Card
ITEM DESCRIPTION

The First Lady of Jazz was beloved for more than 60 years, earning the affection of a mass audience comparable to that of a pop or rock icon. When she died in June 1995 at age 79, it was said, "There's a breeze blowing across this land now that she's gone." Yet we will always have Ella, happily scatting on her classic 1930's Decca "Savoy Ballroom" records and the brilliant subsequent Verve records such as "Oh, Lady Be Good!", "A-Tisket, A-Tasket", "Summertime" and "Cool Breeze". And we have her NRMT signature on this American Express card from the early '60s. Card is imprinted "Ella Fitzgerald, Salle Productions". Purple-white card is pristine, just like Ella's voice.
