Lot 1596: Ali-Foreman "Rumble in the Jungle" On Site Poster and Photos
ITEM DESCRIPTION

Sensational on-site lithograph poster of the championship bout between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman and wire photos are a significant piece of a landmark event. On the 20"x30" thin cardboard, the fighters' silhouettes superimposed on a green African continent against yellow background heralds "a gift from Zaire President Mobutu for his citizens and an honor for black men," reads the French at the bottom. Slightly bent corners and a stain at Foreman's elbow do not undermine the impact, EX+. Note that the date, Sept. 25, 1974, was changed to Oct. 30 when Foreman cut his eye in training. That development is chronicled in six glossy 8"x10" wire photos. Others show Foreman, the defending champ, in training; shaking hands with the U.S. ambassador; doing his road work; playing ball with a boy; and discussing his ill-advised strategy in losing. Fantastic content and overall quality, EX+-EX-MT.
