The saddest words of tongue or pen -- "What might have been" --
aren't on this framed Rawlings poster of a young Herb Score, but they may as well be. The young southpaw entered like a meteor in 1955, winning 16 games, striking out a a league-high, rookie record 245 and copping Rookie of the Year. The next year he won 20 with 263 K's and 5 shutouts. Then, on May 7, 1957, at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium, the Yankees' Gil McDougald hit a liner that struck Score in the eye, nearly blinding him and ending his season. Though he returned to the mound in '58, he was never the same and became a journeyman, retiring in '62 to become the Indians' longtime play-by-play man. B&w poster of Score following through reads "Herb Score Fielders Gloves" in yellow with the Rawlings logo below. Mounted in a 31 x 40" frame and NRMT.
