Maple beauty serves as a memorial for the man who wielded it, Harry Agganis. Agganis made his debut with the Red Sox on April 13, 1954 and died on June 27, 1955 at the age of 25. Agganis, a Boston-area two-sport star, turned down a lucrative offer from the Cleveland Browns to play baseball for the hometown Sox. He had a promising rookie season and was hitting .313 25 games into his second year. But after being hospitalized a second time because of chest pain, he passed away from a heart attack. Louisville Slugger with Agganis' carved signature packs a lot of use in a short period. Gouges join the usual dents and smudges. Flared handle instead of a knob is a classic touch. Some called Agganis "The Greek God." In a very brief time, Agganis earned his share of immortality. Bat dates from 1950 to 1954.
