Lot 1300: 1969 Andy Warhol Campbell's Soup Silkscreen from the Charlie Sheen Collection

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $1,000.00
Winning Bid: $7,280.33
Price Realized: $8,700.00
Auction Date:6/26/2005 9:00 PM EST

Near-mint quality framed screenprint of Warhol's "Old Fashioned Vegetable" from the highly-desired 1969 Soup II Suite series. Warhol by then had turned his Campbell soup can renderings into an industry of its own -- to the delight of Campbell's, which at first had lawyers try to stop him from doing any more, in the name of copyright infringement. Few could have predicted then that Warhol's entire oeuvre would come to be defined by the simple, unadorned image of THIS 50-cent soup can. This silkscreen mint SIGNED by Warhol is 23 x 34" and preserved beautifully under glass in a 25 x 37" black frame. The definitive Warhol image and the ultimate symbol of pop culture. Obtained directly from the Sheen Collection who bought it right from Martin Lawrence Galleries, Warhol's California representative.
