Emotional 13-page letter of April 20, 1912, from a young Zack Wheat to his future wife, Daisy, in which the future HOFer confesses to loneliness and alienation in the big city. A long way from his native Missouri, the 24-year-old leftfielder (who still holds the record for most games played at the position) begins, "My Dear Pal" and writes of feeling "penned up", adding, "Honey, I know I wouldn't be loneseome if you were here to talk to me." He then pours out his emotions about "people trying to get my goat in this town," and "I don't think praying would do me any good either." He signed, using his nickname, "Your own pal, Buck W."
