Lot 1705: Mike Storen's 1970 ABA All-Star Game Ring

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $1,000.00
Winning Bid: $1,741.91
Price Realized: $2,081.58
Auction Date:6/26/2005 9:00 PM EST

A super piece of ABA memorabilia, this 1970 All-Star Game ring belonged to less than Mike Storen, the peripatetic executive who from '69 to '74 bounced between jobs as GM for the Indiana Pacers and Kentucky Colonels, co-owner of the Memphis Sounds, and league commissioner. Storen got the 10k gold beauty at the '70 All-Star Game in Indianapolis when he was still the Pacers' GM (they'd win the title that season). Game MVP Spencer Haywood did a little better, getting a huge trophy, a Dodger Challenger and a color TV. For Storen, though, the ring was priceless, and for ABA collectors it may be. Ring has a diamond core set on a black stone, with "1970 ABA All-Star Game" engraved on the corona. One shank has an enamel red, white and blue ABA ball and "Indianapolis Indiana," the other a figure on a player. Interior of band engraved "M. Storen." Slight crack in the black top stone and on the red enamel of the ball, o/w NRMT. LOA from Storen. Haywood's Dodge is long gone; this ring is forever.
