Lot 546: 1933 Washington Senators Team Signed Baseball
ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||
Immensely significant vintage ball signed by the 1933 AL champion Washington Senators, the 3rd and last flag won by the team that thereafter became a punchline -- "first in war, first in peace, last in the American League." Fittingly, the sweet spot is occupied by shortstop-manager Joe Cronin, owner Clark Griffith's nephew-in-law who hit .309 and led the Nats to 99-53 record, besting the Yankees by 7 games, before falling to the Giants in a 5-game World Series. Other signatures include Rice, Manush, Goslin, Altrock, Sewell, Schulte, Crowder, Stewart, Thomas, as well as future "clown ump" Al Scacht and World War II soldier-spy Moe Berg. Signatures average 7 to 8 out of 10. Gorgeous OAL (Harridge) ball is VG-EX,deeply and evenly toned to a bronze-like golden brown with a sleek veneer, its blue and red laces still tight and colorful.
