Imagine a star player today sitting down at a typewriter and answering fan mail. That is why this framed (19.5 x 12-inches) and signed Jimmie Foxx letter and photo reminds us so much of the good old days. Foxx not only labored through his response in the 1934 correspondence, he also had his Philadelphia Athletics roommate Pinky Higgins autograph the picture directly below his own mark (both are 9-10/10). Foxx kindly requests that the fan write the other Athletics "direct" for their signatures. "The Beast" was a better slugger than a writer but he knew how to please his admirers. The 4- by 8-inch photo of his follow-through is creased from someone folding it into a pocket, but retains its sepia charm in a home-plate shaped frame. Foxx signed his note to a person named Dick with a quaintly familiar "Jimmie" (9-10/10). They don't make Hall of Famers like they used to.
