Lot 1160: Edgar Martinez Last Puerto Rican Jersey
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Contrary to appearances, Edgar Martinez was young once, and when he was, he progressed up the ranks of the Puerto Rican leagues. This San Juan jersey was part of the last uniform he wore before heading to the Mariners in '82. Well-worn jersey has "San Juan" in blue and orange and and "11" in blue across the front, "Banco Popular" in blue on a white patch and "11" in blue and orange on the reverse. Blue and orange trim down sides and shoulder, blue V-neck. Interior tagging is "R&M Sportswear" [size] L". The just-retired Martinez, who grew up idolizing Roberto Clemente, won his 2nd straight Clemente Award for sportsmanship last season. The jersey, then, has much sentimental value.
