Lot 1499: 1928 New York Yankee Team Signed Baseball
ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
This 1928 team-signed championship Yankee ball boasts 16 total signatures, though Babe Ruth's name on the sweet spot is a clubhouse version applied by an attendant or bat boy. However, the rest of those magnificent Yankees have been verified, HOFers -- Lou Gehrig, Earl Combs, Waite Hoyt and Tony Lazzeri. No one begrduged Ruth his kingly place on the sweet spot, so it was no implicit that anyone who signed for him should do it on the sweet spot, in this case in blue ink with sporty quotation marks around "Babe" and a large sweep to the "R" very similar to the real Ruth hand. Gehrig's is on a side panel with the last name a bit faded, o/a an eminently legible 6. Other signatures include Joe Dugan, Ben Paschal, Gene Robertson, Benny Bengough, Johnny Grabowski, Pat Collins, Wilcy Moore, Mike Gazella, Hank Johnson. One is unreadable. Some signatures light, most fine, with the average 5-6. Reach OAL ball has extensively toned to a golden grayish hue with a light dusting of white spots, presenting a gorgeous classic display appearance. LOA.
