One of the bats wielded by Mike Piazza during his Rookie of the Year 1993 season with the Dodgers has a hand-scrawled 31 on the knob. The welts and mini-craters on the heavily lacquered Mizuno came courtesy of Piazza's power. Three black streaks in a row appear on the fat part as if by design. A hairline crack in the middle put this club into retirement, but Piazza went on to hit 35 home runs and drive in 112 runs that season to announce his arrival as one of the game's most feared hitters.
