Lot 1900: Rocket Richard Montreal Canadiens Photo Matched Game Worn Jersey

Even as an oldie but goodie, Maurice "Rocket" Richard ran the gauntlet on the ice, as can be seen (and almost felt) in this terrific game-worn Canadiens jersey from the "Showdown 1978" oldtimers game during "Super Series 1978" between the NHL stars and the Russians. The next best thing to an actual 1950s game worn Richard jersey (a nearly impossible commodity to find), the red Montreal tie down jersey worn by the then-57-year-old Rocket shows fantastic game use with a slew of marks, tears and team repairs -- most notably a black slash running some 6" diagonally down from the middle of the Canadiens' "CH" logo. Luckily, this telltale mark allows easy and exact matching of the jersey to two photos mounted on a great, NRMT 20 x 28" laminated display poster for Showdown 1978 showing him on the ice in the shirt. Richard has also signed a LOA attesting to this. Dureen jersey has blue and white trimming, logo in red, white and blue tackle twill on front, the ever-present captain" C" on the upper left torso, and the famous "9" on the back and on both sleeves in blue on light gold tackle twill. Maska tag sewn in the neck with washing instruction tag. Jersey says it all about the Rocket.
