Stan Isaacs penned the "Out of Left Field" column at Newsday, winning a prestigious National Headliners Award, and has written frequently about the arts and politics. For decades, he compiled this fascinating collection of correspondences with famous folks from all walks of life, including E.B. White, Leonard Bernstein, Charles Schulz, Pete Rozelle, N.Y.'s Cardinal Spellman, Budd Schulberg, Howard Cosell, Rudy Giuliani (thanking him for his idea for a Jackie Robinson-Pee Wee Reese memorial), Philip Roth, Bill Veeck, Stan Musial, Red Barber, Vin Scully (3), Frank Stella (postcard from Spain), Senator George Mitchell, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Joe Paterno, Joe Garagiola, Lester Rodney (editor of the N.Y. Daily Worker who was instrumental in breaking baseball's color line), Bill Clinton (x2, autopen and printed signature), and Hillary Clinton (printed message and signature). The signatures of this pop culture cross-section are in some cases very rare, with many being accompanied by the original mailing envelopes. Overall EX+.
