Lot 1810: Pete Rozelle Condolence Letter on Bert Bell's Death

Great 1960 Pete Rozelle letter to Bert Bell's widow, Frances, conveying Rozelle's insecurity about becoming NFL commissioner after Bell died of a sudden heart attack on October 11, 1959. Rozelle, the L.A. Rams' GM ( a job he notes Bell selected him for), got the nod to step in and on February 10, 1960 he wrote to Mrs. Bell that he was "entering my new position with mixed emotions," having to replace "such a remarkable man." Of course, Rozelle would take the league to even greater heights. Letter on Rams stationery reads "From the desk of Pete Rozelle" at the top and has the Rams' logo on the lower right. Written in blue ink and signed, "Regards, Pete," writing is NRMT. 5 1/2 x 8 1/2" with 3 light folds and is o/w EX-MT. Comes with original envelope sent from L.A.
