Lot 292: Eddie Collins Bat On Shoulder Photo by Charles Conlon

Among certain collectors, what's on the flip of this classic 4 1/4 x 6" photo of HOFer Eddie Collins is as good as what's on the front -- which is saying something since the shot of an intense Collins with his oak-sized bat slung across his shoulder may well be the best close-up shot of the Philadelphia A's third baseman ever taken. No surprise, then, that the photo was taken by the great sports lensman Charles Conlon. Collins' name was also written in at the top, by Charles Conlon, the legendary photog of the era who was working for Paul Thompson as the time (has Thompson's stamp). For lens buffs, this is something equivalent to a ball signed by Ruth and Gehrig. The stunning photo is absolutely EX-MT.
