Lot 286: Johnny Evers New York Giants Coaching Photo
ITEM DESCRIPTION
If the great old second sacker lionized by Franklin Adams'poem "Tinkers to Evers to Chance" seems a bit crabby in this photo from the late 1918, it might explain why his coaching job with Muggsy McGraw's Giants was so brief. The sawed-off, volatile Evers, whose nickname was in fact Crabby (for the way he had gobbled up grounders in his heyday with the Cubs), got along with few people and not surprisingly clashed with McGraw before moving back to Chicago for managing stints with the Cubs and White Sox.. 6 1/2 x 8 1/2" photo has Keystone View stamping on back and is EX-MT.
