Lot 1853: Gerry Mullins #72 Pittsburgh Steelers Game Worn Helmet
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Though undersized for a lineman, guard Gerry Mullins always came up big, usually by ramming this battered helmet into the solar plexus of a bigger man in his way. Mullins was vital to all 4 Steeler title teams in the '70s and the helmet is a proud reminder of the team's glory and the travails of an offensive lineman. The classic Rawlings helmet is covered with nicks, dings, splotches of discoloration and seeming claw marks, the adhesive logo sticker and brown center stripe are partially torn off. Interior padding somewhat sweat stained. Facemask has been removed. With its history and toughness, a perfect Steeler symbol. Given to a sportswriter by Mullins himself.
